Hi Rossi I was thinking about the asus Rampage IV formula and the I7 4930k? Or would you recommend something else

Mmmm Rampage IV and 4930K = :D

However, i thought there were problems with the Formula version of the Rampage IV. One of which being a multiplier lock/limit on 125 strap i think.
Most use the Rampage IV Extreme or the Black Edition of it.

What have you got a the moment? Are you planning on selling what you have to put money towards it? I would start to recommend saving money until the Haswell-E release to be honest.

Hi I've got the asus maximus extreme vi and 4770k I've only had this mobo for 5 days so could return it and sell my 4770k.
I would probably go for the Rampage extreme IV then as the black edition is a bit more expensive and not in stock

The best thing about the RIVE is that because it's such a good overclocker and popular, there community feedback is excellent. You'll have no-end of help available for you :)

8-Pack and Kaap are good with the board here, i'm sure they'd be happy to answer questions about it.

Regardless, i don't know about you but i'd be rather peeved if i got a new 2011 setup all nicely and then 8 months later, the brand-new platform with DDR4 came out.
I'd be inclined to stick with what you have if i were you, then save some money each month and when the new X79 platform comes out, sell your setup and buy into the new Haswell-E.

But as said, could be 8 months, could be 12. Difficult decision! :p

The multiplier lock on the 125 strap is a problem on all the X79 asus boards including RIVE, R4F and RIVE-black edition.

Asus have apparently replicated the issue and currently new patch/bios being written to address all this. Quite absurd given that the RIVE, R4F have been around for over 2 years.

What is this 125 strap issue on a RIVE?

Yeah what issue?? Never had a problem myself and had RIVF, RIVE and R4BE all of them have been fine.

Doesn't happen on every single board but many of each model have an issue where the multiplier is stuck at max x34 or x36 when on the 125 strap. This leaves only multiplier overclocking as an option on the 100 strap for those affected.
