(LGA775) or Socket 775...what is the diff?

OK, confused a bit here.... maybe im just daft but doing server builds and network builds ive lost touch with PC builds, now im building one for my dad as a basic gamign rig, and i need to get a fan as the fan he has now is on a AMD chip and prob wont work on the INTEL one... and i forgot to order it with the rest of the order [i know, im a muppet]

But, (LGA775) or Socket 775 - which would fit on a ASRock 4core VSTA and a Intel C2D 1.6ghz E2140 CPU....

arr so LGA have pins on the MB for the CPU and a 775 has the pins on the CPU itself.

Looks like the fan fits both so thats good.

No, you were right the first time. Strictly speaking there is no S775 and we're all guilty of sloppy usage.

LGA775 or "Socket T" are the official names for it, but they are the same thing. Pins on mobo only. You should get a retail stock fan with the E2140 so no need to worry.

Good point. Forgot they ship fans with them now lol... has been awhile sinse i have built a home pc and not a server.
