LGA775 socket cpu install/removal

Hi,

I'm a little wary of the weirdness of the socket LGA775. I haven't yet done a cpu install or upgrade where the pins are on the wrong side :o

I've read that an LGA775 socket is rated for 20 installs. And I've read of the damage that can happen if you slightly fumble the removal and/or installation of the cpu.

My question is: Is it really that bad? Any tips to help not damage the mobo-side pins both when removing and installing cpu?

Thanks

just take your time doing removeing it un latch the motherboard pin what holds the processor down and lift cpu out if your installing a new cpu theres only one way the cpu will fit should be notches so you cant go wrong just gently lower into position then fasten down with the socket clip

Thanks for help. So you can pretty easily get a good enough grasp on cpu edges with just fingers in order to lift the old cpu straight up so that it doesn't drag at all on the pins?

Main reason I'm asking this is that I have two different plans I could go with depending on when I get an additional new HDD:

Plan A:
Upgrade E6550 to Q6600 and a little later install E6550 on another mobo

Plan B:
Leave E6550 as-is and put the Q6600 on the other mobo a little later

If I do Plan B (and avoid cpu removal procedure), I have to get new HDD sooner than later to get the Q6600 running on the other mobo. Hence my concern about how removing a socket 775 cpu can be. I'm wondering if I shouldn't remove a socket 775 cpu if not absolutely necessary.

Cheers

No, it's not that bad. It's quite straight forward to do. You could be a bit more careful than this guy, but he still didn't damage it I'm sure:

Where did you read this?
http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket 775 (LGA775).html

Just found the link. It says in the second paragraph "guaranteed to last at least 20 insert cycles". So not as bad as what I said, but still doesn't sound reassuring compared to good old ZIF sockets.

But thanks everyone for all the help and reassurance. So it's not as bad then as it sounds I guess. I'll have a look at the video as well.

Cheers
