...but they've got work again right now.

LHC'ers, fetch. :D

Currently giving my Mac Mini some pre-F@H excercise with it after it decided to murder all my other crunchers (Dual Xeons, P4s, Athlons, the lot) at BURP - although I admit that could be juck as BURP WU times are so erratic.

But if you do as boinc expects you to do, just leave the project active, it will pick up new work if and when there is some.

There have been a few small trickles of stuff over the lat few months. Not a lot of work I grant, but enough to keep the PC busy for a day or two. No doubt test WUs as they worked up to their next experiment.

They're having (half planned) downtime too:

Due to a network renumbering of a part of the CERN network, the LHCHome servers are going to be unaccessible on next Tuesday morning, 20th of June. Access should be reestablished in the afternoon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I've got 4 units waiting to return here. Not a huge amount, but I'd still rather they weren't hanging around too long. :o

As an aside, there's been a hell of a lot of angst/witch hunting/whinging about users with high cache settings.
No doubt that'll kick off as soon as there's an opportunity to post it now the work's done.

I can see there being an issue with the high cache settings when they only have short runs of WUs. Those short runs tend to be very expermiental i.e. is there or is there not an experiment to be done. Oly once those WUS are done will they know if they are making progress.

It's a lot different to the seti and similar projects where there seems to be an endless or gradually evolving work supply.

LHC crunchers probably do need to accept this and they aren't in it for how much they can do, more how quickly they can do it.

Quite, I just find the idea of users attacking their fellow users disturbing. :)

Ideally, the admins would either a) chuck more experiments into the pot (though I can accept that isn't necessarily possible) ergo more WUs or b) turn the maximum unit quota down, but they seem to be interested in doing neither.

If anyone's still having issues with getting completed units to upload, try stopping and restarting your BOINC client. Worked a charm for me.

Came from this thread.

Yup, had that, did same, sorted. Shame about the two BURP workunits that were running at the time. :(

Thought it was just me until now though. Didn't even know about that thread. :)

Oh, and if anyone has a problem with my 4-day cache, they can just like it. I do what I do and that's an end to it.
