many people in the mining scene just want to believe that there is an unlock and willing to take a chance on it regardless of the risk whether they are aware of the level of risk involved.
anyway crypto has dumped hard, so hopefully some decently priced cards on the second hand market
I've long been resigned that many crypto speculators are not entirely rational, but with a 3090 making around $3.90 before electricity (so around $1.50 at $0.30 per kWh which must be close to the UK (and European) average now), I think the crypto part of the GPU price hike will all end soon. And a lot of the bigger spending gamers have already bought so the only real demand will be from those who waited.
And prices have been dropping for weeks now. Still way above MSRP. And MSRP wasn't really actually that great but people have been making out that a 3080 or 6800 etc. at MSRP was somehow a bargain. It wasn't, even back when the launched both Nvidia and AMD overpriced this generation by around 10% to 20%.
