Hi everyone.
I thought I'd share a little project I started a few months ago, I didn't want to continually update as it would have been a very slow project log due to the fact everything has taken so long for stock to be available and items to ship. So, I think I now have enough content to update and start this project log off for you all to see. Its still an ongoing project as I'm still unable to get a brand new 30series GPU to put it in the 2nd loop, so I'm still only half way there at present but things are coming along nicely.
So, the idea is to go for a Tron theme build, one of my all time favourite movie. That original movie I saw when I was a kid got me into everything computing and shaped who I am and what I love to this day. I still watch the original on a monthly basis, even as a 42 year old guy it still fascinates me.
So anyway, for the build, the idea is to have a split coloured dual loop using the main neon colours from the Tron movie....Turquoise blue, electric purple and yellow/orange all being bright and vibrant using UV to get that 80s neon look. My two favourite colours have always been blue and purple together so looking forward to making a very distinct looking build.
Also wanna give a big thanks to @Jay85 for the advice trying to make this build really pop and look decent.
Anyway, main build parts are:
Ryzen 3950x
MSI Tomahawk X570 motherboard
32GB (16gb x 2) Corsair Vengence 3600mhz RGB
3080FE or 6800XT (still can't get one due to stock so using a temporary Titan RTX)
Corair AX 1200i Platinum PSU
1TB Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 SSD
2x 1TB Samsung 860 SSD
2 TB Western Digital HDD
Lian Li 011 XL ROG case
Water Cooling parts:
2x EK FLT120 with D5 pumps
2x Corsair XR7 360mm Radiators
Alphacool Eisblock XPX Aurora
EK Torque Black Nickel fittings
PETG 16mm hard Tubing
2x Bitspower Ball Valve fittings
2x Lian Li Uni SL120 triple fan pack with controller
3x Cablemod UV/RGB strips
2x Noiseblocker 120mm fans
Mayhems Azure blue liquid
Mayhems Neon green liquid
Mayhems Electric purple liquid
UV blue, UV green and UV purple dyes
Pics of the build progressing:
Yes I know, another Lian li 011 XL build... They shouldn't have made the perfect case for water cooling. Very excited though, finally arrived after 2 months on pre order.
Excuse the messy dog blanket.
Gen4 M.2......What a looker.
1st of the EK FLT120 arrived.
Assembly started a few months back with what I had.
Had to take off these fans from a very old rad that Kaap had knocking around, was still waiting on my Lian Li Unis.....still no sign of them so needs must to get some cooling in the case.
All cleaned up and fitted to bottom rad. Bequiet cooler mounted as a temporary solution to test the PC working whilst we wait for all the water cooling goodies to arrive. Missing a lot at this point but was just getting impatient waiting for stock and deliveries.
Still unable to buy a 3080FE or 6800XT so this will have to do for now
She's not a looker right now, but desperate to use it.
Finally, all the way from EK (along with eye watering import tax) the other FLT120, fittings and a few more lengths of PETG tubing just in case we run out in future.
Lovely these Black Nickel torque fittings
Finally After months of waiting.
Finally happy to try and visualise the colours for the Tron theme.
Time to finally start the build properly. CPU Block arrived, top rad mounted with the Lian Li Unis. Fittings being connected in various ways to get an idea of loop order and design.
Lets not look at this mess for a bit.
Right, everything is in place to start the bending. No point doing anything for the GPU loop as we still haven't found a 3080FE/6800XT, so just going to focus on the CPU loop for now and use the GPU as is until we source a new one.
First bend done, what a moment, its been almost 3 months after the first part was bought to get to this stage.
Change of plan...Lets start with the trickiest area first. Not to bad, had to use a few fittings, bends would have been to close and to small. Quite happy how it came out though.
On to the next one.
We on a roll now.
Happy with the layout and final look before we start filling with liquid and cycling the PSU.
On to the fun part. These are the liquids I'm going to mess with. To get that slightly turquoise looking blue, I figured we'd try a Azure Blue base, with a few drops of Neon Green then add some UV green or UV Blue to the mix to get that really vibrant bright neon look under the UV strips.
Settled on this slightly green looking blue.
Time to start filling, luckily had a spare PSU in the loft to get the pump cycling as we fill.
First time powering it on after leak testing for 6 or so hours. UV lights at 100% here, will need to adjust.
And finally with the fans on and glass back in place. This is where we are finally. One loop done, now we wait for a 3080/6800XT or whatever new card comes in the next 6 months to complete the bottom GPU loop (which will be purple) to complete the project.
Apologies for the picture quality, I'm terrible at taking pics, on a phone camera also and no idea how really show off the colours. Done my best, not as bright as this IRL and you cant really see the purple from the UV either but you get the idea.
