Lian Li case - how to install HDDs ?

Yeah, Im trying to turn the cage but dont know how.

Putting the screws in first only works for one side, still need access to the other side.

You put the screws into the disk when it's nowhere near the case. When you've got 'em all in walk it over to the case and slide it into the rack.

Except the drive cant just be slotted in like that, ive tried. The screws are large with rubber rings so even having screws in just one side stops it from slotting in.

Yes it can. I built one of these cases a few weeks a go as a replacement case for my server and five disks installed in it using the method shown in the manual with the cage still installed "across" the case..

To fit the hardisks as has been stated you screw in the long screws with the rubber lugs when the disk is completely separate from the case and then you just slot it into the racking, (note that you need right-angled SATA cables if you have the disks "across" the case otherwise the side won't go on). The rubber grommits have a slot in them which the racking fits into on each side. So the disk rests on these on the cage edges ... they don't sit between the disks and the cage horizontally.

This is shown on page two of the pdf you linked too. Note that, unless you are moving the system around then you don't need to add the last middle screw as shown in the sequence.

how do you like that case, i am about to build a system with that case (black) for my bro in next couple of weeks and was wondering if it was truly silent and how good is cooling?

My case has Intel 2180 Processor with stock cooling, a passive video card, 4x 500GB drives and a 200GB drive (all SATA) and a DVDRW.

I'd make the following comments on the case:
1). I found it quieter than my previous case, almost to the level of my HTPC boxes, but I wouldn't class it as silent. It is reasonably quiet though and most of the noise I do have is probably due to the 5 disks.
2). As already mentioned, if you have the disks mounted across the case you will need to use SATA cabes with right-angled ends as the straight connectors will stick out to far to put on the sides of the case.
3). If you have multiple disks in the caddie the power cabling can get to be a bit tight, but at least it's away from the airflow to the motherboard etc.

I quite like the case, it looks good and is less intrusive than the old Stacker case I was using.

Ill echo what memyselfandi said.

I have:
i7 920
EVGA gtx 260-216
Raptor 300GB
Enermax 82+ (450rpm) PSU (very quiet PSU btw)

It's really quiet about the same level of noise a SKY+ or Nintendo Wii or XBOX 1.
Mine seems to be a slightly newer design and can take 6 x 3.5 drives.

I'd recommend it.
