Lian-Li front audio connectors problem

I have a Lian-Li v1000 and v2000, both of which have P965 DS4 motherboards in, and i was using the onboard audio in both.

On both systems, I had the front audio ports connected to the front auido header using the HD plug (the solid connector) rather than the AC97 plugs. Whilst I could get audio through the front audio socket, it was hissy on both systems, and there was no way to get the software for the on board audio to recognise that the headphones had been plugged into the front jack, hence I had to mute my speakers manually.

I have now purchased an X-fi XtremeGamer which has a "Intel HD Front Panel Audio standard only" header. The manual also mentions that the card is "Not compatible with AC97 or Intel-compatible HD Front Panel Audio".

As per with the onboard audio, the card/software will not detect when I plug in the headphones/mic to the front ports. Sound quality through the front port is very good mind you, though Mic is a bit hissy.

Is there basically a problem with Lian-Li's front audio connectors, in that the HD connector isn't compatible?
