Lian Li Lancool III Full Tower PC Case - RGB VERY NOISY

Hi all,

I have just taken delivery of an Overclockers built gaming rig and have plugged it in for the first time, only to be met by what sounds like a wind-tunnel. I am literally composing this post while the fans speed up and slow down, with nothing else pulling on the CPU or GPU.
I expect this sort of noise in high traffic areas of AAA FPS games like COD etc, not when I'm browsing the web (for a solution to the noise).

Is there a control UI where I slow the beggars down? Or is it a symptom of an underlying problem such as CPU AIO cooler not working?

Any help gratefully received.

probably in the bios - fan curves

possibly, but mid-air diagnosis (haha pun) is nearly impossible without knowing what the cpu/gpu temps are

Thanks for reply. I wouldn't know how to do Bios stuff; I did go to Lian Li site and downloaded what feels like a useless PoS app, unless I'm not using correctly. See image
Rich (BB code):

The temperatures seem cool enough for the case fans not to even be running. I'd also like to turn of the go-faster stripes (rgb) if poss.

yeah those idle temps look more than fine so i suspect your cooler is working, though would preferably want to see the semi-loaded/fully-loaded temps before i commit 100% to that statement lol.
i suspect it will be the fan curves that will need tuning

Should OCUK have done this? I paid a premium for them to build it, and waited a month with 2 component changes because of stock errors on their part.
This thing is doing my head in, it's so loud, and obviously will tax the fans if constantly on fast to high-speed.

cannot answer for ocuk i'm afraid, and as i'm not next to your computer i also cannot tell actually how loud (dB) it actually is

some will accept higher temps for a quieter system (this is you i guess), some will want a cooler system at the cost of a noisier system
some people also have more sensitive ears than others :P
a bit hard for ocuk to cater for all unless specifically requested - but then again if they did not ask you, you wouldn't have known either to tell them to config the system for silence

i guess the best outcome would be to drop ocuk a webnote and ask if they will config the system for you (or at minimum, guide you through the bios settings)

It's not just fan curves I suspect, my 7950X without setting it to Eco Mode and a -15 Curve to it (when I first got it, was), constantly ramps up and down as it completes tasks, and it sends the CPU fans to full blast, as it hits 95C it's max safe (auto reduce) temperature. (My other fans were controlled by an Aqua Octo Fan controller so was not as badly affected)

The first thing would definitely be to set the fans to a lower setting, then to reduce (undervolt) the power to that CPU, that'll help it from trying to hit max speeds all the time (boosting) and then stopping and causing a ruckuss.

oh yeah that's true the new intel chips do the same thing too...

I have just realised I haven't activated the Windows 11 yet; could that be preventing the apps (Gigabyte Control Centre) and Lian Li control from working correctly?

no
non-activated windows just displays the unactivated watermark and stops customisation of desktop/settings

OK, thanks.

Somethings not right. Gigabytes Control Centre just not working on the system.

I ordered this PC with W11, is it normal for it to arrive without it registered/activated?

I think that's normal, as you need to complete the registration/activation as it's online based, so they can't make it for you and you have a different existing account that may want to add the new system to, so (I think) it's done this way to let users complete the rest of the way; whether as a new account or adding to an existing one.

If you can get away without it I'd avoid Gigabyte Control Centre - It has a bunch of telemetry and other background processes which can intermittently cause slow boots or one CPU core being busy for minutes at a time and I've had performance issues with 1-2 games like Hogwarts Legacy with it though strangely isn't a problem for most games.

I have downloaded the programs on its list bar one or two; I can now use fan control, but even when set to silent the PC is very loud. I will have to ring support as this noise level is commercial use.

Is there anything you'd recommend to replace GCC?

Also, is there a way to turn the RGB lights off? I chose basic case in my build but OCUK messed up on stock, so offered the RGB version at no extra cost, or wait for the basic case to come back in stock.

I appreciate the help guys.

So I have been onto support; they said to bring down the speeds with the fan curve through the control suite. Are there any recommended speed/temp settings, or a site that recommends the settings for the components in the system?

Also, there's a high pitch, fluctuating whirring noise which support suggested is coil-something-or-other, and nothing can be done to stop it. To me it has a rhythm synonymous with moving parts like pumps/fans. Anyone had any issues like this, and did you solve it?

Thanks
