After about a years worth of gathering parts and putting off from making any changes to my rig, decided to get off my butt and actually make a start on this (otherwise it'll never get done), as i was not satisfied with how my rig looked.. and whilst this will not exactly improve performance, i just wanted to make it a bit more special, since this rig is planned to last another 5 or so years before an upgrade.
Still awaiting for a few bits and bobs from AliExpress, Ebay etc so will make a start with what i can.
This is how it looked previously
This is how it looks currently after replacing my 6800xt with a 3080FE
Items i have purchased and will be replacing some of the parts already in the build. Some may not be used.. all depends how overkill i want to be:
HardwareLabs LS240 Radiator (Had as a spare, may as well make use of it)
50cm Linkup Extreme PCIe4.0 Riser cable
8x Lian Li AL120 Fans
3x Lian Li SL120 Fans
EK FLT120 Reservoir - Body only
Aquacomputer Highflow Next
Zillions of Bykski 14mm Frosted Acrylic Tubing. also have about 3m of BitsPower 14mm Tubing if i decide not to go frosted
Excessive amount of cable sleeving and cables to try my hand at custom sleeving
Various Video Panel Mount and extension cables
Switch over from Vardar to AL120 are only based on aesthetics. Both are very good fans, whilst the Vardar's are brighter, but the AL120 look more appealing to me
Most uninteresting part since it won't be seen is the rear hard drive cover. Drilled out a square hole and lined with blow hole trim. Ordered a couple aluminium plates which will be shaped to include mountings for the video panel mounts. I could've taken the easy no hassle route of lining it with a large rectangular grommet but in my opinion looks more messy.
First attempt at making a panel mount with a lot of sanding and filing.. and not liking it, so will be redone when the aluminium sheet arrives... would be nice with a lasercut, but too expensive and probs a waste for what i need it for... plus the holes aren't centerd and they'll annoy the hell outta me so that has to be redone right.
Most of my ideas are 'up in the air' as i don't exactly know whether it will fit/work, but that will be the fun part of making it work.
Purchased one of these to hold the GPU in place.
Lucky the 3080 is a single slot card so should have enough room for a couple fans sitting behind it, which will provide some cool air to the back plate. Sprayed and shortened to fit the dimensions of a 120mm fan mount.
Lastly, with no pics as i didn't take any, to cut out a 60mm hole in the rear fan mount so i can attach an FLT120 with DDC to it. Should the DDC not cope, then it should be relatively easy to pop the old pump out and replace with a D5.
More progress to follow this weekend.
