in the market for a new case as some of you may allrady know. but ive managed to up my budget and am now lookign for a case aroung 50 quid the best i could find is the Lian-Li PC-7. i just wont a sturdy case which gd cooling and a gd stylish look. is this the best i ccan get for about 50 quid.

Everyone on here seems to think it's a great case, not had one myself but so many people keep recomending them I'm thinking about relegating my Sonata to server duties and getting a black PC7 under the desk!

Excellent case, I'll be posting a review soon, now that I've got some photos of a fresh build. It's the talk of the forum, almost everyone loves it.

I have one. I'm pretty happy with it but I don't see why it's regarded as extra special. The side panels can audibly vibrate, the clean design is somewhat spoiled by the (useless) blow-hole grill on the top and the included fans are pretty loud.

Akasa Zen. But then that is not built as well.

The case does not necissarily vibrate, more you have something causing vibration.

All cheap cases have crap fans, my Lian Li S80b has dire fans even!

For the money, I have yet to find a case that even comes close to it new. Neither has anyone else.

Only case under £100 I would consider superior is the Eclipse 62, and that looks like a dog's rear end. :p

Fans, HDD, CD etc. all make things vibrate around the case making 'the case vibrate'. :)

All cheap fans are crap too :D (found this one out a year ago). Akasa Ambers are the ones most people get for quiet performace if you don't like the stock ones.

I think the Eclipse-62 has a doggy front end and a doggy sidepannel too :p :D

(just re-itterating your points for the lesser minded people Yewen :p)

I am in the process of sorting myself out a new computer and want like £80 max on a case, and the PC7 is the only sleek, stylish well build case I can find. From all the reviews I've seen it's well built in the structural sense (especially for £60) and it's also well built in the features/useability sense of things. As far as I can see I can't go wrong with getting this case. I will be upgrading the fans to some that cost £15 a time, but I don't mind cooler and quieter is goooood.

InvaderGIR, I think my lesser mind grasped the fact that a case does not vibrate of its own accord. If the side panels had a secure fit then the vibration they pick up from other components would not be audible.

As I said, I'm happy enough with the case, but I just can't see what's so exceptional about it.

Good:
Looks nice
Inside is sturdy (if rather basic)

Bad:
Lousy fans
No removable tray
Side panel fit isn't perfect

How does that translate to "nothing comes close"? Are other cases held together with string?

I wasn't actualy trying to have a dig at you mate, just if someone else is reading it and doesn't understand then I pointed it out.

(keep making a bit of a tit of myself here)

No, just not a patch on the PC7+.

Bluetac, instant solution to your side panel problems. Put some on the gap, and the vibration will instantly go away.

Better to deal with the source of the vibration mind, but bluetac is a good fix.

Buy the Lian Li - you wont be disappointed.

I wish there was someway to show people Lian Li build quality over the web. Pics just dont so em justice. Will be the best £50 quid ever spent imo. :)

edit: The PC-7 is a fine looking case. Whats ugly about it?

The fan vent thingy in the top...other than that nothing.

I was going to say bluetac then I decided to not post then I did post and forgot

I think for me it'll go well with the Enermax Aurora keyboard ;)

I think you should look at the Eclipse62. Personally I dont care about looks and to be honest it doesnt look nearly as bad as people rant on about it.
It's a little bit more expensive, but if you google it and read some proffesional reviews then you will see that it is a very, very good case.

Who says reviews are proffessional though?

Anandtech and THG are well known for getting cases completely wrong, as are Custom PC mag.

WJA96 rates the Eclipse very very highly, bar the looks so do I. It is not built as well as the Lian Li however.

WJA96's opinion on any case with me holds more weight than any random review, I know he has used the cases, he knows what he is talking about with them.

Reviews can be written from this point of view:

Oh god, gotta review that case, looks at it for 5 mins, writes some generic spiel lifted from other reviews, done.

A user who has purchased the case, you know they are interested in the case as you are, they are using a real world system in the case, for a length of time long enough to judge the performance of it.

Reviews never mention half the flaws I find in cases, and they usually come up with plus points I ignore. You can only judge a case by the best one you have used, why I wish to try a HFX one when money permits.

Reviews are worth absolutely nothing in my eyes, one person saying otherwise on a forum, who can answer some basic questions for me holds more weight than any reviewer on a site or mag ever could. They just make to many errors. v1000 a good cooler, Mirage having an aluminium front....

I know I rant about reviews a lot, but there is no way of benchmarking a case, my v1000+ on air cools a full 8deg cooler than the one THG had, and mine has hotter components in it. :o
