Lian-Li PC V1000 compatibility issues

Just a quick question before I hit the buy button :)

I am literally about to make my first purchases for my new build (at long last) I will be ordering my case, PSU and HD before this Friday. I really like the Lian-Li PC V1000 case and I keep going back and forward from this and the Akasa Mirage, with the Lian Li as the slight favourite. Anyway I would like to know if there are any issues about the motherboard being upside down in this case. Are there any compatability issues with the large heatsinks like the Tuniq Tower or the Noctua NH-U12F not fitting inside the case because of the upside down motherboard ? I can imagine these coolers toutching the bottom of the case ?

Also read some reviews on some PSU being a struggle to fit to the Lian Li too. I am looking at the Corsair HX 620W (would like the Seasonic M12-700) but its a bit pricey and more or less the same PSU I think ?

I also like the larger version of the the case the - V1200 but I cant see this one on the OCUK website to buy ? I would have thought OCUK would have the V1200 too ? Dont mean to sound fussy but I want to make sure everything fits. :)

All the photos I have seen of the V1000 have been watercooled and not air, thats why I am a little worried about large cpu heatsinks with this case and the upside down motherboard.

Hi Ian,

I wouldn't worry too much. It really depends on the motherboard more than the case TBH.

I had a PC-101B which is basically a v1000 with a door:

As you can see i managed to fit both a thermalright si-128 and ultra 120 extreme into the case. It was a little tight but did fit.

As for the PSU, the tagan in the pic is quite a deep PSU @ 175mm. It fit with both HDD frames in place but i decided to remove the rear set to allow for more room to work. If you only plan to have 3 HDD's you will be fine.

They're lovely cases! :)

Fantastic reply GT, great photos too mate. That ultra 120 extreme does look very tight to the bottom of the case. The motherboard I like is the Abit IP35 pro, any idea if that would fit ? I suppose I could always fit the Tuniq tower horizontal too I have seen a few like that also the same with the Noctua NH-U12F too, infact I think the Noctua NH-U12F will only fit sideways on the IP35 pro anyway.

I just dont want to get it home and read somewere that this wont fit and that wont fit.

Looking at my P35 DS3P vs your IP35 Pro i'd say it may be a little tight. The CPU socket is closer to the edge of the board on the Abit. That might mean the larger heatsinks would interfere with the aluminium below.

You could try rotating the cooler but it might not work as well.

Excellent information again GT :)

I have not bought the Abit yet , infact I have not bought anything yet :) I am going to do it in 3 stages starting off with the case PSU and HD, so its all quite workable as I go along. I just chose the IP35 pro as my first choice. Once I have the case PSU and HD I will get the motherboard CPU and graphics card a few weeks after, then last of all a new monitor, thats the 3 stages.

Its quite difficult trying to build a PC round a case I have to say :D But I suppose its worth it if its a great case like the V1000. I could always buy the P35 DS3P at least I know it fits with the ultra 120 extreme, so I am making progress already :)

Cheers Ian,

More than happy to help!

I know exactly what you mean - my PC has been evolving perpetually for around 5 years so it's a constant process.

I can thoroughly recommend the P35 DS3P. It runs my quad @ 3ghz on stock volts and has been super stable. it's Bios could be a little friendlier but it's by no means difficult to use.

Also, i've found its chipset to run super cool... no roasting northbridges. My old EVGA 680i boards northbridge with an uprated Noctua cooler would burn the fingers.

Good luck with the build... i'd be interested to see how you get on! :)

Thanks GT, I will keep you posted on how I get on. Thanks for help mate. :)

Viper thanks for the excellent photo there too of the HX620, fits just perfect :)

I'm also potentially facing the same problem, looking to get a V1000 but have a IP-35 Pro with TRU 120e :|

I'd rather not use it in the other configuration :(

I am guessing a little here and my judgement is based on a visual one, but looking at it, I think the Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B may fit in this case with no issues ?

I would love to go down the water cooling road but it looks a little daunting to be honest  I know you can get water cooling kits but they seemed to be frowned at on most forums I think. Also the costs are higher. But at least I know a water cooling cpu block would fit :D:D:D

Been having a long think about this case, and although I love the way it looks, it does pose me with a problem. I would really like the Abit IP35 Pro and I have no idea if a top of the range cpu cooler will fit in this case with that mobo. The CPU socket does look a little closer to the edge than some other mobos as GT pointed out to me on this thread.

The Akasa Mirage would be the more sensible choice as far as all compatibility isses go, and it does look nice too and works well. I am going to sleep on it tonight and then tomorrow morning decide which one, and before I go to work make my purchase........hmmm

You're right to be careful. With my combination (see sig), the Tuniq is just 1-2mm from the dividing wall with the power supply. Major sigh of relief when I sneaked it in, I can tell you :)

Thanks Kirth :)

So the Tuniq fits just about on the Gigabyte P35C-DS3R with the V1000, thats good to know. Is the Gigabyte P35C-DS3P the same size as the DS3R ? regarding the placement of the CPU socket ?

Those pictures are decieving one is Abit picture is actualy 6% smaller than the Gigbyte, if you correct the size issue and overlay them the distance between the cpu and edge of mobo is the same for both.

The Scythe Ninja fit fine on my old P965 DS3:

Also, i resized both motherboards so they were the same size and split the image to show how much closer to the edge the Abit's CPU socket is - i reckon there's around an extra 8-10mm:

Cheers Ian,

It's always gonna be tight in a case design like this. But don't let it put you off... the V1000 is a great little case! :)
