ok have finally decided to by a new case as my very old lian li case is runnng very hot these days and I'm going to buy a 8800 GTS in the near future.

Have decided on the lian-li v1000 model but what is the difference between the above, I'm assuming that it is just the +2 has the air duct for the GPU. Is this a major benefit or does it make a great deal of difference.

which does anyone prefer and why if poss?

thanks for any help.

I just got the +2.

If you go for a monster sized aftermarket cooler then the duct is extraneous. If you don't then it is useful. If the prices are the same you might as well get the extra bit just incase your next system might use it.

thanks for the reply. I thought OCUK had the plus 2 in stock but must have been dreaming when i saw that :)

have jusy ordered the V1000+. says there is only 1 in stock so lets hope thats the case (no pun intended).

I say that this top fan will make a big difference as the first v1000 was know to run hot at the top of the case..Which is why Lian Li fitted this top fan to there later plus & plus2 cases..

What the 12cm blower fan on the plus is like compared to the 12cm patent removable cooling kit on the plus2 i don't know..

I think it largely depends on your Graphics Card cooling. If you have what is fast becoming the standard type of cooling where the heat is encased on the card and fanned out the exhaust at the back, I have noticed that the GPU temp improvements to be neglible (2 or 3 degrees C), although on a hot summer's day that 2 or 3 degrees could be the difference between stable and unstable! If you have an older design where the GPU fan just pushes the heat into the case, or you have a silent heatpipe type card, then I suspect you would get more noticeable improvements.

They will likely send you the +2! There seems to be a lag between thm updating the page - and sometimes getting older stock. The box I got makes no mention of it being the +2 - but it most certainly is.

wouldn't complain if thats what turns up on my doorstep! ;)

I ordered my V1000PLUSII of overclockers, most likely that's the beauty turning up on your doorstep:)
I found the GPU fan to be a great accessory, my X1950 runs around 5 degrees cooler in this case!
Can't wait to see what it can do to the new R600 series.
The cpu fan duct should be quite good in principle, it's supposed to help the air getting sucked in from the back fan.
You will certainly enjoy this case :D

anyone know if you can get the GPU cooler separately ? Recently upgraded to 8800 and would like some extra cooling.

First place to check would be the Lian Li site, just to check if they offer the GPU cooler separately.

If they do, have a check around. I know sites which sell the CPU Air Duct separately, so I can only assume that the GPU cooler is available somewhere.

isnt the fan an exhaust? How does that work with DHES (Direct Heat Exhaust System) HSFs on the Gfx (ATI HIS ICEQ cards, ATI Stock 1950XT/XTX, 8800 series, ect) , as the hot air is already leaving the case. Or does it just improve the general circulation of cool air around that area?

I draws the ambient heat away from around the gfx cards. I thinks its more effective on the single bay gfx cards, which dont exhaust air out the back.

However, it should still effect the tempuratures of any gfx card.
