LIAN LI - V3000 PLUS - adding a rear fan to the case?

Hi Folks,

I am looking for some advice if at all possible. I recently had a custom PC build from Overclockers (OC) using the Lian Li v3000 plus case. The case sadly didn't come with any fan's included, so I added some to my order with OC (front fans) so I had some air flow. Since I got the PC, I have also added some additional fans, but I ran into one unpleasant problem and that is trying to get a rear fan slotted in. I noticed one very bad design choice with the case sadly, and that is there is not enough room at the back of the case for 2 of the 4 fan screws to go in. I was trying to add a Lian Li 140SL inf fan, and you cannot fit in 2 screws as there is not enough room for the screw head. So I have had to fix it in place using only 2 screws on the left side for the rear fan... which I am not pleased about.

Another problem was I couldn't cable tidy the fan cable as it is just not long enough to reach the Lian Li fan controller. I cannot move the controller as its been stuck in place with some sticky substance, the person building the case had it placed near the front of the case. I only just had room to get it to the controller by taking the most direct route possible over the GPU (as you will probably notice in one of the images).

So I was hoping to ask:
  1. Did anyone else have that problem screwing in a rear fan with this case? I suspect it might be possible if I want to take the back of the case completely apart and fit the fan at that point (but that is going to mean unplugging a number of components, which isn't worth the hassle for me). If so, did you find an elegant solution to getting all 4 screws in for the fan? Rear fan screw conundrum

  2. Are there any cable extenders for the cable going from the Lian Li SL140 Inf fan to the Lian Li Inf controller, where it doesn't lose functionality (i.e., I can still control RGB and fan speed)? I would like to cable tidy that if so. From inside the case, showing the fan cable
Thanks for reading and for any advice you can offer.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm having the same problem.

I can only see two options:
- Remove the motherboard cage and fit the fan first - fan screws should be recessed enough to fit flush
- Attach the fan through the honeycomb holes.

Pretty frustrating either way!

Hi @jmar1851

I didn't sadly. One thing I did try was using a long cable tidy (400mm I think) to loop through both screw holes, then lock it in place that way. That sort of worked, but I couldn't make the cable tidy taut enough to make the fan be flush against the case (it was an improvement though as it reduced the gap), so in the end I gave up on that idea. As mine arrived as a pre-built PC from OC, it would have been a big job to remove the motherboard cage just to fit the fan properly, and if you ever need to replace that fan for any reason, it would be an equally tedious job to do that as well. So I decided to leave it with just 2 screws holding it in…. which tends to trigger me every time I see it, but that is another story. :(

If you do find a decent solution, please let me know!

Completely understand your points - I hadn't necessarily thoguht about having to remove a defective fan.

Screwing through the honeycomb slots does actually work. But it irritates me, some OCD maybe?!

I've been considering taking a dremel tool to the case. Although it would be ugly, at least it would be functional. Nobody looks at the rear anyway.....
