i am quite bored of my ds and thought might trade it in towards a psp
mainly for these 2 games in title only thing is are they just ports of the normal games or are they all new missions and storylines and are they good enough to warrant buying psp just for them?

I got both of them y/day (after borrowing them off my brother for a while) and they are both very excellent games.
Make sure you get a slim PSP as they suffer much, much fewer stutters when getting in/out cars (loading sound causes this, i believe).
LCS - You play Tony Cipriani (fat guy from GTA 3, from 1st island, lives with his mother).
VCS - You play Vince/Victor Vance (Lances' Bro from VC).
Both have new vehicles, missions, story line and VCS even has empire building. :D

I think:

GTA3 was the ps2 game. the Liberty City setting and characters from this are used in the psp Liberty City Stories, which in turn has then been released on ps2 with some extra bits.

Same thing applies to Vice City(ps2) > Vice City Stories (psp) > Vice City Stories ps2.

So in essence they are spiinoffs of the ps2 games and then they were "ported" back to ps2.

LCS was very impressive. It was a shorter than the normal GTA games (as expected) and wasn't quite as polished, but it was still very enjoyable and sledom actually felt like a cut-down GTA game. This was on the PS2 version, too.

VCS on the other hand, felt rushed and very unpolished. Didn't get very far in that before I lost interest, but I'll have to go back to it at some point. That said, although I still loved it, I probably enjoyed Vice City (the regular one) the least of them all, so that might influence things somewhat.

I thought Liberty City Stories on PSP was excellent, but I got bored of Vice City Stories and to date (other than GTA IV) it's the only GTA game I haven't completed, but I'm hanging in there! I think the fact that Phil Collins is in the game a bit later is actually putting me off :( Sound track on VCS is pretty good but no where near as good as VC - still has that eighties vibe though.

I hope they do a San Andreas stories on PSP - if it's even possible?
