If I want to read a book I will reserve a cop from the library then pick it up when it is in. The only book I own are ones gifted to me. What about you? Do you buy your books or borrow them from the library?

I tend to buy them and I have no idea why. I have thought about using the library, but normally I'll just be out and impulse buy a book that catches my eye. I don't normally pre-order unless its something really interesting.

I tend to borrow them, normally because I read books only once.

EDIT: Having said that. Don't forget to renew folks. I had six on loan and went a few days without renewing, racking up a 10 pound fee, which in Yorkshire is a week's wage.

If it's one i'm likely to reread i'll buy it, if it's one i might only read once i'll buy it if it's cheap, otherwise i'll tend to get them from the library.

I like to own them and I'm not a huge fan of the old, abused second-hand books they have in my local library.

The university library was good though, they were in much better condition.

We do both and are lucky to have two different library services nearby, both mainly used for fiction. I buy a lot of non-fiction which gets kept. My wife buys quite a few novels, she only keeps a few and the rest are given to friends and charity.
