Hi,

say I could update my windows 7 to windows 10 for free today, just like we could a year ago.

Say I have a Win7 wthat might not have a genuine product key. Can I proceed with the update and in case any problems occur, I just feed a NEW genuine Win7 key into my machine?

I want to avoid situation, when windows tells me that the product key is not genuine and ONLY accepts a new Win 10 license code, not Win7, which is much cheaper.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what your asking, do you mean is it possible to enter a Windows 7 key on Windows 10? If so, during the upgrade period this was possible if the key was registered.

However, if it has the same behaviour now is anyone's guess mate. :)

You can still upgrade from an activated Windows 7 install to a Windows 10 one, but only if you confirm you are using Assistive Technology to access Windows, such as screen magnifier or other tech designed to allow you to access Windows where you wouldn't normally. I recently chose to consider my glasses as Assistive Technology as I wouldn't be able to read anything on the screen without my nose pressed against it without them. The link to do this is here:

To answer your other question, a fresh Windows 10 install (even a new one straight to the Anniversary Update) will accept a Windows 7 key to activate it.

Last time I tried either was about 2 weeks ago, but I'm not aware of anything having changed in that time.

i'm abit confused what the OP is asking, is it his win7 key isn't a genuine product key and would it be accepted when he does the win10 upgrade process?

sounds like " hi i got win 7 cracked can i upgrade to legit win 10 " .:p

the win 10 upgrade can still be done now and there is no end date if you choose the method Confused Stu mentioned.

whether you will run into issues who knows without all the grey area in your post detailed :D
