Ok I'm obviously being a bit dumb here but what I ultimately want to know is what bike I can ride on my current car license?

I passed in May 1998. Am I right in thinking I can ride a 125cc bike? From what I've read I don't need to do a CBT but it is highly recommended. Do I then need to do any other test? If so what? And if not do I need 'L' plates on? Is there a limit to how long I can do this for?

Thanks in advance for any help, I'm even confused by the stuff on Direct.gov.uk!

You can ride a moped (50cc) without L plates, but if you want to ride a 125cc bike or scooter you'll have to apply for provisional status, then do a CBT. Then obviously have to do whichever test you want to either get a A or A1 licence, or just continue to ride around on a 125cc until the CBT runs out.

If you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001 you don't need to complete a CBT course to ride a moped. However, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) recommends that you do.

If you want to ride a motorcycle you must apply for a provisional motorcycle licence and then complete a CBT course.

Bet you a pound you won't do that :p

To be honest I've costed up getting a bike vs the cost of my car and for the little amount of mileage I do, it would take about 2 years to start to pay. So i'll stick with my car for the moment... You can keep your pound ;)
