Lies, Bribes and F1 - Panorama BBC1

Will watch it tomorrow.

The Bernie book I've read is "Bernie: The Biography of Bernie Ecclestone", which is a good read.

The clip with the daughters and the money, one of them is a billionaire yeah?

It really is another world.

I guess they are both heiress' for a fortune worth billions, Im not sure if either actually IS a billionaire in their own right just yet

Panorama was fluff mostly imo, court case is never going to come to anything other than a slap on the wrist at most. doubt he will be found guilty at the end of it and if he is, he will whip out a check and be done with it.

Aye, was it really necessary to fly the presenter to the Bahamas? Eddie Irvine didn't have much to say that wasn't already obvious.

When they did the build up to that bit, I took a quick guess at which washed up driver it would be - wrongly guessed Villeneuve :(

Well it had to be a washed up someone... if it was someone still involved in F1 they'd be too busy kissing King Bernie's bum to say anything against him. ;)

Not surprised the BBC wasted money going out to the Bahamas though, they probably took half the organisation.

I hope goes down. Tax dodging scumbag.

Tax dodger scumbag or not, should we not be grateful to him for making F1 so high profile and getting it onto TV screens globally, rather than hating on him?

Even if Eddie Irvine feels it's wrong that Ecclestone is several times wealthier than the top drivers, you could argue that had it not been for Ecclestone, Irvine himself might not have accumulated a fortune that affords him to luxuriate in the Bahamas surrounded by yachts.

I'm not denying the good things Bernie has done for the sport. What really winds me up about him is this. I'm a nobody. I work hard for little money and I pay my taxes. Bernie is a billionaire international figure. He might work hard but despite his unimaginable wealth, he's done everything he can to avoid paying his taxes. Taxes which he can easily afford to pay without having any real impact on his fabulous lifestyle. Taxes which the UK government could put to good use in any number of areas. His greed makes me sick. For some people enough is never enough.

Couldnt agree more. If found guilty. He deserves to die in jail and his wealth sold off, that includes family members.

He can afford great accountants, most of us cannot. If you were filthy rich like him, your view would change. Money like that changes people big time.

I know money changes things, and yes If I was that rich I would have accountants, let's face it I'd need them. What I wouldn't do though is take my money, give it as a gift to my partner, making it all tax exempt, and then get her to invest it in a bank in Luxemburg where she can then funnel off millions and use it to support my extravagant lifestyle tax free.

There are many rich people in the UK who do not try and play the system to avoid tax. I'd be one of those people. Short of me winning the lottery though, this is a hypothetical that's unlikely to ever play out. :(
