Your idea means that consciousness must live in decay, like every other portion of your body. If we placed some energy inside a jar, how can you make that energy rot? It's intangible, free moving, never residing in one place the whole time. Consciousness could work in a entirely different fashion. Which you're logical thought process is only one form of understanding. That maybe why you cannot comprehend an idea like this. It does not fit into you're worldly view, literally.
