Life for an OC'd CPU

How long they last? mine at stock is 3.3ghz (i52500k) but its oc'd to 4.6 and I thrash Flight simulator with it. I expect at least 10 years out of it with my Titan Fenrir Xtreme cooler, realistic?

If you are sensible and dont over do it, then they last just as long as stock.

4.6Ghz is nothing and thats almost average.

I've not seen any reduction in life due to overclocking. That includes air, water and phase cooling. All of my PC's have been retired way before the CPU's ever gave up and that's usually around 5 years.

Id have to disagree with that, 4.6 is def not average, unless you work with nasa cpu's. No modern market cpu has exceded 5ghz and 4.6 is extremely fast, it is a new generation cpu utilising 4 cores. My cpu lick flightsim with tonnes of add-ons with full settings, there isnt a game around that can test a cpu like FSX. And the sandy bidges cope just fine.

Im on about your overclock of 4.6Ghz, thats average for these chips and if you couldn't achieve 4.5Ghz+ then you have got a runt of a chip.

Exactly this. You'll upgrade before it dies unless you put silly volts through it. I tend to push mine as far as it goes on safe volts, then drop it down 100MHz just to let it breathe. And it stays there until I upgrade.
