Seems you can pick them up quite cheaply now,on a certain auction site.I'm looking at buying a laptop before xmas, mainly to play the new "Black Ops" COD and to play the old versions.I don't have a desktop option now.So is the old SU7300 and GT335m still an option? Or have they had there day.

I should think it will run alright, but is 11" going to be big enough to play constantly?

No pun intended. :)

The M11x R2 is out if you don't know, with i5 and i7 processors.
They are more expensive but auction is an option to save a few hundred unless you going America.

The i7 i5 versions don't make a massive difference in gaming,in the few reviews i have read. The i5 i7 R2 units are the same money are the MSI units on OC's

General consensus amongst those that have had to endure the problems with the rest of the ranges the SU73s are underpowered, the I5 range is the one to go for. However then you need to really get the maximum spec GPU. Even then you need to purchase the R2 variant as it doesn't have problems with the hinge, like the earlier R1 variant. Then you need to make sure its NOT a refurb as many of them are, the difference seems to be that the keyboard is notably UNLIT and the keyboard is often US with Transfers to change the keys. In addition to that there has been some problems with the Drivers for the various GPUs as they're 'Dell Versions' which means as of a couple of weeks ago where as Nvida\ATI has upgraded their drivers for their cards, Dell were a generation behind and everyone was waiting for them to catchup, it was then 6 weeks and despite numerous emails Dell was somewhat quiet on the situation.

Thanks for the heads up:) Maybe a R1 is not for me and i will find a few more £££ and get a G73:cool:

Good idea, however, it has to be said that the G73 has problems too. It would be easier to take a look at notebookreview.com and put in the model numbers and you'll see for yourselves. Lately, there's a problem with ALL models of gaming laptops. Which is a shame, as if I could find one I would buy it and have it delivered tomorrow.

Unfortunately, either retailers have last years models or there's some problem with the things.

Head on over to notebookreview.com, they have an entire forum dedicated to the M11x (both R1 and R2).

I am tempted by an R1 in standard spec (upgraded memory is cheaper elsewhere). £250 is a lot of money for no real gaming performance benefit (judging by posts over NBR).

Here's a quick comparison:

Please note that this is the core i7 model which is £100 more than the i5 version (which itself is £250 more than the SU4100 model).

hi

i purchased one of these the other day and gotta say from what ive played on it so far its more than capable of playing most games had no problems with medal of honor single or multiplayer had to dial down the graphics to medium on the multiplayer but you don't even notice it on that screen size.

also seems more than capable of playing starcraft 2 as well and borderlands and got call of duty modern warfare 2 on it as well and got all settings to high and getting a completely playable framerate.

this was with it on stock settings and no overclocking and from the details ive been reading up on notbookreview the CPU and the graphics card is highly overclock able.

for the price i think its a bargain and did come boxed and brand new from what i understand the ones up at the moment were originally for the german market and can see the keyboard has been restickered with the keys but you don't even notice otherwise it was in mint condition.

Did you pay £599?

yup paid £599 and its was brand new come fully boxed like you would expect and even came with the outer box if you seen any youtube unboxing videos.

well worth it

Off a well known auction site? Can you see that the keys have stickers on them? Get the CPU overclocked to 1.7Mhz ;)

yup off the well known site.

Yup you can clearly see the keyboard has stickers on it that the only drawback but im not bothered about it at all and wose comes to worse at some point i can always replace the keyboard.

gonna look at OC it at some point as ive been told you can push the graphics card quite high as well without to much more heat.

Well we went to the shops and my wife got sick of me procrastinating(slow rational),backed me into a corner.......................And i walked out with a HP Envy 17 :)

Hope i made the right choice

While the HP envy is a great laptop and very well built. Does it come with a good graphics card too? Also, it was probably much more expensive no? :)
