New vista install, been running for a couple of weeks now, and I wanted to get my webcam working (Microsoft VX-3000). Downlaoded the drivers, I try to install them, and get the extremely helpful error 'Setup cannot continue because an unexpected error has occured.' And then the setup exists.

I've tried redownloading the installer, and just plugging the cam in without isntalling it (it can't find drivers so won't work).

Now, it worked fine on here (Vista 64) before the reinstall, so I can't think why its not working now.

Weird, exact same error happens here.

(Vista x64, VX-1000)

Lost CD, download appropriate software the for the OS, ran it, and at the same point that same error message appears....

Ah, found a solution!
I just plugged the webcam into the PC, the found new hardware wizard failed to install it, opened up the problem and support window, with a link to download 'Lifecam1_3VX.exe' from the MS site.
Instead of 'Lifecam2.04.exe' which is what you get from the MS site if you go through it properly. Its an older version of the program, but it installed fine! Its a 117Mb download, but it worked for me.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/0/c/c0c9745c-b21d-4725-b890-ba96b15d65b0/LifeCam1_3VX.exe

Try that, see if it works.
