Lifeless Sky+ HD picture?

I have a Sky+ HD box connected via HDMI to a 4k TV and the picture just seems dull and fake in comparison to my PS4, DVD's (both on same HDMI as Sky box), USB inputs and Youtube streams.
I tried calibrating with Disney WOW on my PS4 and the picture looked great, switched back to the Sky box on the same input and it's rubbish again.
Am I missing something or can some Sky boxes just output in poor quality?

When you first connected the sky box did your TV go through an install routine for the Sky box ? By that i mean, did it pop up a box asking a series of questions as to what sort of box it is ?

Depending on the TV, it may well have the ability to store different picture setting based on the resolution and refresh rate of the source signal. i.e. BD is 1080p24 whereas Sky is 1080i/50 if you set the box to output that at all times.

If this is the case then you should take what you learned from WoW about how the picture changes with each control and apply those lessons to the Sky picture.
