Hi people and thank you for taking your time,
I need your help in looking for a new laptop.
I have been looking for a while for a laptop that would be a proper vaio Z (2011) replacement. This is starting to show its age, and I must start looking for a new laptop that suits the same role.
At the same time, I would like this new machine to be a step up in current build specifications. This is proving challenging, with most of the new breed of light machines having about the same performance, and no more ram than my current one. This is something that I would wholeheartedly appreciate to have, as the development tools I use, really use a lot of memory.
These are my current machine features (vaio Z (2011)):
I am going to do 3 lists on my wishes; first the musts, then the great-to-have, and then finally the nice-to-have
Musts
Great-to-have
Nice-to-have
Many thanks for your help.
Regards,

These are my current machine features (vaio Z (2011)):
- Dual core (i7 2620m)
- 8 gB ram
- 512 gB SSD (raid 0)
- 1.2 Kg
- 13", 1920x1080 IPS panel
- Extra battery
I am going to do 3 lists on my wishes; first the musts, then the great-to-have, and then finally the nice-to-have
Musts
- Dual core (i7)
- 16 gB ram (an absolute must)
- 512 gB SSD (or greater)
- ~1 kg (true mobility is very appreciated, but I can compromise there)
- 12-14" with at least 1920x1080 resolution
- 5-10 hours battery
- external video output with at least QHD (2560x1440) resolution (an absolute must)
Great-to-have
- Builn-in RJ-45
- Docking station connection (preferably not usb based, as they are prone to instability)
Nice-to-have
- Drive two external screens when docked
- No discrete graphics (I prefer the simplicity of integrated graphics... this is not a gaming machine)
- PCI-E SSD (why not?!)
- Optional external battery
- keep the resolution of the screen at 1920x1080 (windows scaling still leaves much to be desired, specially on multi-monitor configurations with different DPI characteristics)
Many thanks for your help.
