Guys i have my Dell 30" on the wall mounted but i was just wondering it would look nice with subtle white light behind it, has anyone does this and advise on what light to use? I considered a rope light hidden behind but i think it might be too bright. It would just be nice to do and have the rest of the rooms lights off.

khemist would be a good forum member to ask for advice about this, I have seen lighting behind his monitor in several of his photos (you can see it a little in the thread linked below although the monitor isn't the highlight of these).

As far as I'm aware he can change the colour pretty easily as well.

Edit :

Infact he put some newer pics up in the desks and room gallery.

Looking around and i think 2 or 4 white cold cathodes would do this but i dont want to power them from within the pc, can you get molex that go to a normal plug/transformer?

Hi,

I got a £7 bathroom mini strip light and put it on the wall behind my monitor, although I wouldnt mind a pure white instead of the yellowish glow.

Its the best idea if you like a light on and have a glossy screen!

If you are thinking of using cathodes or led strips you could run an extended molex/fdd (which ever it needs to be powered) through the watercooling gromets on the back of your case with the cable running right up behind the monitor stand so its not seen.

I'm hoping to get a black Philips LivingColors (Gen2) for my birthday for exactly this purpose, although I'm pretty sure the same thing could be achieved with a couple of cold cathodes mounted behind a monitor and an extension cable on a PSU molex.

I have one of those in my main computer room - it's excellent and everyone who sees it demonstrated thinks it's awesome. It is best that you point it towards the corner of a room so that the light scatters properly though - it shouldn't be placed behind your monitor, although I haven't tried it myself so who knows?
