Now that Hive app shows the power usage of our smart plug, I can see that the uplighter in it is drawing about 200W power when on. It's currently got a halogen R118 400W with I believe R7s fittings. I'm just struggling to see what LED alternative we could use, I am not sure if there needs to be any LED specific driver involved or anything?

Motive to change is cost saving but generally the uplighter is on about 4 hours per day which I reckon at current dimness is about 50p or so per day (feel free to correct if wrong).

If anyone can help me identify a suitable bulb that is dimmable but will work in the uplighter that would be really useful?

I've had these below bookmarked forever, to replace bulb in my better uplighter 3000lumen metal halide
.. but currently using another uplighter with a e27 1000 lumen bulb similar to ikea ones but with bigger 14" odd, shade
I know that the colour rendering in the philips led will not be very good versus the halide, so haven't tried it yet.
have been looking at these philips to replace some metal halide 70w rx7's - but not sure they are slim enough for existing fitting.

Ah yeah those Philips ones look like they'd do, my fear is the flickering though, any idea outside the reviews on how they behave?

they actually sell them at farnell - which, like a real amazon purchase would be, is a less risky if you had flicker issues. ..
philips generally more flicker resistant, even if they change colour as you dim them

they are more bulky/dia than existing ones I have, I havent measured up reflector space

Brilliant, I think I'll measure the space and risk it based on it suggesting it can retrofit.

another option I may consider for mine is removing the r7s bulb holder and reflector and mounting something like ... need some more research.

had a further look .. I think these kind of lights could be installed upward facing on my existing uplighters, maybe use a clear polycarbonate sheet to replace the diffuser
