My Ni-CD drill is 2.4kg. I'm considering a Li-ion drill that's half that. So light in terms of weight, not use. Although I don't want those glorified power screwdrivers. I can stomach up to £60, but would prefer much less. Is it worth looking 2nd hand?

I personally wouldn't bother with 2nd hand. In my experience people rarely replace power tools unless they're knackered. £60 isn't a lot to spend, wíth the big brands that will barely get you a battery.

Probably best see what's in your local German supermarket.

At 60 quid, unfortunately, you don’t have much in the way of options and can’t really be picky, as above - lidl or aldi branded stuff is your best best.

if you need lightweight/small for the dexterity it provides getting into smaller places - is wired out ..
I've used a drill over last couple of years mostly with a wire brush for preparing metalwork and a cordless would be bulky, and the mains socket is never far.

Remember if you're after the lighter weight you'll also need to go for the smallest battery possible. Bigger the capacity the more they weigh, but with the obvious caveat that it won't last as long.

The lighter/smaller the tool generally speaking the less powerful it is. What exactly are you needing it for? Do you need hammer function? You going to be doing loads holes with holesaws? Speed bits? Or is it just for screws? You going into steel, joist, floor etc

Think you’re going to really struggle to get a light to handle drill that’ll perform heavy duty tasks for £60.

Aldi doing a drill for £14.99 and a battery + charger for £41.98

Or a less powerful one with a kit for £49.99

I'm sure this fits the given criteria:

It's light at only 350g, it's cheap at less than £10 and it doesn't need batteries either! You have the option to bang your head on the back handle for hammer action too.

I actually have one of those - well, similar design but way older!

An update: I went with this drill. 1.3kg, and maybe 2 small batteries are better than 1 big one.

That look amazing for the money.
