Light fitting replacement - switch required?

I had a sparky in yesterday to do some work around the house, and he wasn't able to replace some of the old wall lights because the lights themselves were wired directly into the mains lighting circuit and the new wall lights didn't have a switch on them (the old ones have a pull cord).

After a few google searches, I've found a few different "smart bulbs" which can be turned off and on with an included remote (or even with apps), which seem ideal for what we want.

My question is will it be unsafe/against the regulations to have a light fitting that's always live unless you trip the circuit breaker (i.e. with no switch in between)?

Cheers

Probably would be ok.

There is a regulation for "functional switching" that offers guidence for using MCB's as switches ,but without knowing what type of breaker it is ,there's no way of knowing if it conforms to BS7671.

But surely for conveinence it would be better to bite the bullet and have the pull cord switches replaced for wall mounted switches?

Yeah you're right, I'm probably making this more complicated than it needs to be. The pull cord switches were part of the old fittings but the gf doesn't seem too opposed to finding some light fittings that include a switch. At some point we'll probably get wall mounted switches installed.

Cheers for the reply.
