Light fitting went pop

So this week I put up 2 light fittings, replacing bog standard roses.

The first one went fine, everything working.

The second one I did exactly the same, but, when I switched it on, there was a loud pop and a spark from underneath the fitting on the ceiling. I got it off again and noticed that the line wire was not in it's terminal block and the block was all black inside.

I replaced the block, cutting off bits of the wires that were also black, but now it doesn't do anything at all. All the other lights work fine.

Any help? :)

Sounds like you've somehow created a live to neutral short via the switch. So it's possible the switch has also been cooked. The other possibility is the light is supplied by a fused spur from somewhere and the fuse has blown.

But unless your sure of what your doing I would get an electrician to look at the situation.
