I've bought some chrome light switches to replace the plastic white ones I currently have. The switches I have bought have COM (top) and L2 (left) L1 (right) as follows, sorry if the photos are a bit blurry:

I just need to know where live and neutral goes in these switches. I have replaced all my switches downstairs with toggle switches and they had live and neutral printed on them so they were easy to change over.

Thanks.

Red - Live = COM

Black with Red tab ( switch live) = L1

Should also run a seperate earth from chrome switch earth lug to backbox earth lug.

Thanks but I've taken a look at the wiring and have some more questions!

The top 2 pics are from the hallway light and the bottom pic is the bathroom light.

All the mounting boxes are plastic so for the hall light I can just swap the wiring over to the new switch. I take it I then remove the earth from it's plastic housing (not sure what the technical name is for it) and wire it to my chrome switch?

The bathroom switch will be the same to swap over but there are 2 earth cables in the plastic housing. Will wiring any one of these earth wires to the chrome socket be okay or do I have to attach both of them?

I have looked at the other 3 light switches as well and they just have 2 x red wires and an earth in the plastic housing again so they should be easy to change.

Thanks.

MAKE sure you mark the wires, or preferably tape the wire groups together before disconnecting them or do one group at a time, or your going have a major problems sorting them out if they get muddled.
And switch off electric before doing any work.

No problem taking earth from pattress & connecting to earth lug on switch.

Bathroom light must be a pull switch if within bathroom, as to the two earths, you should connect both to switch earth lug or terminate them in a plastic terminal block & seperate earth wire to switch earth lug if space is tight for both wires to fit in..

Thanks mate, I do turn off all the electric just in case! The bathroom switch is outside the bathroom and just a normal switch, it also powers the fan above the shower which is what the extra wires are for.

You only switch phase/live on domestic lighting, the neutral normally goes direct to the light fitting along with the supply phase/live and then switched using the 3 plate system.
As stated just make sure you tape together the grouped cables and then wire them like for like into the new chrome fitting making sure you create a good termination on the CPC/Earth (double over the cable in the terminal).

What cable group goes into L1 or L2 doesn't really matter as it's 2-way switching, the commons however are critical that they are correct. (The L1 in the bathroom is a 2-way switch being used as a 1-way switch so use L1 or it will turn on when switched off:p
