Light switch problem with sub woofer

I'm experiencing a problem with my home theater, well the problem lies when someone elswhere in the house turns a light switch off (it seems to happen in one location) and the I get a "thud" through the sub woofer.
I've changed the ligh switch thinking that this was the culprate but it still does it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah...it's very annoying.
Forgot to mention that I tried conecting the home theater to a different power supply but that did'nt work either

Thanks for all your replies, I'll look into them one by one to find a solution.
When you say have I got my equipment surge protected are you refering to a normal strip mains surge protector such as this one

or is there a specic surge protector for AV equipment that you have in mind?
