I moved into my place a couple of years ago, and some of my bulbs have blown/died.

Gone are the days of simple bayonet fitting bulbs it seems. For some reason almost every bulb fitting I have is unique/different! I'd like some advice on what kind of bulbs I'd need to replace/get spares :)

Ideally from the same place, if there is a one-stop bulb shop. I'd also like to replace high energy bulbs with lower energy ones if I can (LED for example).

Bulb 1

First of all, the overhead light in the bedroom has gone. According to the bulb I took out it's a Philips Master PL-C 13W/840/4P bulb. Made in china, has a square bottom, and 4 prongs. The bulb itself is 4 longish fluorescent tubes.

it's not a very nice light that these give off, is there a reasonable replacement for them? I have a 2nd one of these in the study.

Bulb 2

One of my LED bulbs has gone, these are fitted in the kitchen and the bathrooms. According to the bulb it's a Kosnic KLED05PWR 5W 240V GU10 3000K D05 bulb.

It looks reasonably good quality, has a heatsink on the back, and 4 LED's behind semi frosted glass.

Bulb 3

I have a lamp, for which I have never found a bulb that fits it. Any ideas what this bulb fitting is? Inside is a twisty thing.

Bulb 4

My other lamp, has a different bulb. The bulb went, it's a larger twisty fitting, not sure what kind of bulb this is either. The top of the bulb says STATUS 240V 28W.

Bulb 5

I have several overhead lights in the hallway/dining room that appear to be standard bayonet fit lightbulbs. The bulb says BELL 250V 60W.

Can I replace these with LED bulbs somehow?

the bayonet and screw fitting ones will be one of two standards, "normal" or "small", get the equivalent wattage that you want in them, there is a huge thread on here about led bulbs or all kinds.
Although, the pic for bulb 3 doesn't show a "twisty thing",. it looks more like a bayonet fitting to me, unless something clips in the little plastic holes and you twist it?

Bulb 1, is a 4 pin bulb, replacing with LED might be hard, not the sort I have done myself, but check out an online bulb/led bulb store as they will have a huge range.

bulb 2 is simply a gu10 bulb, can be found in lots of places.

Blame the new planning regs, all new builds have to be fitted with a certain percentage of lowpower light fittings to supposedly save money/energy.
But led bulbs have now come out and the old incandescence ones are being phased out.

4 years into our new build
1 pendant (fitting for bulb 1) replaced
3 complete 2d ballast units (used in bathroom and kitchen) replaced, they are called gear trays, but try and find somewhere that sells them!
About 4 bulbs for above.

Screwfix is the place to go for replacement bulbs, B&Q sell them but for silly prices.

Bulb 3 looks like an E14

the pic for bulb 3 doesn't show a "twisty thing"

The screw thread is in the middle "circle", not sure what the channels are on either side, but it looks exactly like most Ikea E14 fittings.

At a guess bulb 4 sounds like an E27

LED Hut are pretty good for LED bulbs - i've had a few from there - only thing I would say is that the colour seems to be a bit cooler than some other brands (well... I'm comparing to Diall ones from B&Q).

If you want a match for standard halogen bulbs then go for the Warm White (best for rooms where you will want to chill in the evening such as bedroom/living room) I have Daylight GU10s in the kitchen, and IMO they're perfect, give a nice clear light that isn't too harsh. The cool white are a bit too "blue" for my liking, have one in the bathroom and if you go in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning it's a bit too much, probably going to swap it for a warm white.

If you go through Quidco there's 10% cashback atm, plus using the code NOVAT gives you 20% off :)

So...

Bulb 1 - not sure, could do with replacing the fitting itself somehow to fit a better bulb type?

Bulb 2 - Standard GU10 fitting, would these work?

http://www.ledhut.co.uk/spot-lights/gu10-led-bulbs/6-watt-gu10-led-spotlight.html

Bulb 3 - E14 potentially

http://www.ledhut.co.uk/led-bulbs/e14-led-bulbs/6-watt-e14-led-standard-shape-bulb.html

Bulb 4 - E27 potentially

This? http://www.ledhut.co.uk/led-bulbs/e27-led-bulbs/7-watt-e27-high-output-standard-shape-led-bulb.html

Bulb 5 - standard bayonet fixing bulbs, can I replace with these?

http://www.ledhut.co.uk/led-bulbs/b22-led-bulbs/7-watt-b22-high-output-standard-shape-led-bulb.html

Dimming not required on any bulbs. Is it safe to just replace with the lower power LED ones assuming the old ones were generally using the higher powered bulbs previously?

Generally speaking was aiming for 500-600 lumens, and warm white as the colour of choice :)

~haggisman, good spot, I couldn't make that out on the photo.

As long as you make sure to get LED bulbs that are the right amount of lumens/equivalent wattage you should be fine. Avoid the chinese cheap ones on ebay, they have lower quality etc, you're saving money but will have to replace them sooner than the better brands.

Bulb 1: Its probably easiest to just get the same bulb, but replacing fitting is obviously a choice, but a google for "4 pin led bulb" first result from in the rainforest looks like an LED replacement is possible.

Bulb 2: Because each brands lights tend to be slightly different color temperatures, I would opt to get the exact same bulb as a replacement, unless you can't find them or they are silly expensive. Or if you want to gradually transition to another brand/color then do that too.

Bulb 3 & 4 seems correct at E14 and E27

Bulb 5+ As far as I know, its perfectly safe to replace the normal bulbs with LEDs, if its not, then all of mine have been done...and I haven't blown up my house yet. The only ones that can be a problem is halogen things which use a transformer (you might have to replace it as well).

For bulb 1 - According to http://www.lighting.philips.com/mai...l-c/master-pl-c-4-pin/927907184005_EU/product it's a G24q-1 fitting, I guess 4p means "4 pin".

Some real funky looking replacements here for the fitting: http://www.ledison-led-lights.co.uk/p/PL+LED+G24+8Watt/40.htm

Bulb 2 - The en-suite is quite small and only has 3 LED lights in, with 1 broken. I could potentially buy 3 of them and replace them all, and use the 2 that still work as spares for my other rooms for when/if they go?

Bulb 5 - Thanks, I can but try :D

There is a Screwfix near me, will go and check it out see what they have :-)

EDIT - Went to Screwfix.

Wound up getting the LAP Mini Globe Opal in 3 different types of fitting, it's a 5W/30W equivalent LED bulb.

http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-golf-ball-opal-led-lamp-white-es-5w/2113g

I got it in E14, E27 and B22 (bayonet) fittings. All of which work just great! I haven't replaced all of my bayonet bulbs but I don't use them as much, just replaced the main hallway one which I use the most. When the others die I will replace them with these.

The bulbs are pretty bright, they are a nice colour too so far, not too white or anything! happy :)

For bulb 1 - will have more of a shop around, the ones I have are just awful. Eventually maybe I can change the fitting to a standard bulb one and just use a low energy LED bulb.

For bulb 2 - I have been recommended these: http://www.ecosaveledlights.co.uk/mled5wgu10.html

I may just buy 3 of them, and swap all of them in the en-suite, keep the 2 I remove as spares for the other rooms.
