Hi,

My garage is detached and will look into running power to it (bottom of garage) at some point in the future, but for the time being with winter coming up, I'm looking to get some lighting in there.

I've seen the LED strips you can get on a roll (one strip on each beam for example), so was thinking of hooking these up to a small battery, such as the burglar alarm 12v ones and also trickle charge from a solar panel that is used in caravans/boats etc.

Has anyone done this before? I would still want a normal switch ideally.

I've come across these so far from a quick search.

Any thoughts?

I did see those, they are a bit more of a spot light? I'm after general coverage inside.

I've just got 6 normal ES lights wired together going to a plug and string an extention lead from an external socket on the house when I need to use them.

I'm probably not supposed to do that.

I do this in the interim too.

Rough quote from a sparky was about £300 including armoured cable for mine as there's space on the consumer unit, a consumer unit and light/electrics already wired up in the garage.. just the previous owner didn't put a hard line between the house and garage.

Depends how much it would be. Think I'll get a quote first and weigh it up. I don't mind digging the trench, so it would only need the cable connecting up at house end and run down there with a second fuse box/junction inside the garage and a couple of strip lights with a switch. Might not be as much as first thought.
