I'm building a PC for somebody who has made a bit of an unusual request. They want a normal budget but functional case so I have chosen the Akasa Zen. They also want "funky lights". To cater for this I have ordered a USB Disco Ball. I would like to get some cathode lights but as they are usually mods that I see inside cases I was wondering if I'd have any difficulty installing them outside of the case.

Would it be better to get some kind of lighting rig seperate from the PC entirely in this instance?

Also I need them to be able to be switched off, they wouldn't be on the whole time the PC was on.

I know its a bit of an unusual thing and personally I don't bother with any lighting mods, but its not for me so any advice would be much appreciated!

Oh yeah, if I could put the switch on the side of the case or something rather than round the back that'd be nice too!

If i were doing this all I'd need is a Bunch of coloured or UV LEDs, some wire, a glue gun and a toggle switch.

Wire the LEDs in parallel to the 12v or 5v of the PSU then attach them to the case.

Wiring a switch between the PSU and the lights means you can still have the PC on without the lights. mounting the switch to the case wil require drilling a 3-5mm hole tho.

You can buy lighting kits purpose built but i'd always do my own :) cheaper and just as eye catching.

GO BLUE PETER!!
