Lightning + burning smell = large bill?

I think it would have killed everything inc the hard drive, but I could be wrong and I hope I am mate.

Surely evern a ups cannot protect your pc if you get a huge crack of thunder, evern if it could, the ups would be nackered???

That's what I'm worried about, not sure whether I should just buy a new psu & hope for the best, or get straight on to the insurance co (when I can find my policy!) and get it looked at.

It's a shame as I've built it up over a few years :( - mind you, a brand new ocuk built machine might make up for it!

Just as an update, I got the new ntl modem through today and it works using the ethernet. However, when I connect through my wireless it says it can't connect to the internet, so that appears to be dead too.

NTL have admitted that there was a lightning strike which killed my modem, but won't admit that this also killed my pc and wireless hub... I wonder if it's worth writing to them to get them to pay for it? Seems to be their problem after all.

Maybe you're right, I should have disconnected it all really.

Not sure what UPS to get, the Belkin ones seem okay & have the ethernet ports on them too, it's what we use at work.

I'll get it all ordered this weekend so I can start rebuilding on tuesday & hope nothing else is burned out. I took it all apart last night and it all looks / smells okay, so fingers crossed :)

Cheers
