Lightning to HDMI adapter not full screen?

Hi all,

Forked out for the lightning to HDMI adaptor so I can watch Netflix etc on the big screen.

On my iPhone 5 it works great and fills the screen, but on my iPad 4 it doesn't fill the whole screen.

Is there any way to change this behaviour?

Further to this I found a tweak on Cydia which has sorted it but it is a bit of a faff to get it just right. Costs $2.99 and it's called "DisplayOut", it works well but it is very disappointing that I couldn't find a way to do this on a non-jailbroken device.
