Lightroom 4 Presets

Does anyone know a decent place where I can download free Lightroom 4 presets?

I'm going away travelling tomorrow for a few months and have decided to take my Macbook with me. I've wiped it and done a fresh install of Lightroom and all the presets I had have gone.

I had some fantastic Summer Look presets which did a good job of adding some vibrance to photos quickly.

Any ideas?

I only had a few. I haven't really used Lightroom for a year when I last went travelling for a couple of months.

I only wiped my laptop in case it gets stolen, once I return I will do a full system restore to what it was before but at the moment I have only put back on Lightroom, iTunes etc etc.

Most of us can create those presets ourselves.

It's a great way to look at all the filters you might want to go about creating as well xD

From watching the video, I think it's more than a simple effect on each. They've sort of adapted into it a process so each change has a more of a layer effect, presumably incorporating the history tool into the preset itself so you're not irreparably altering the image as you go on.

That being said, as Lightroom doesn't actually edit the photo itself, if you know how to apply those changes yourself, you only have to use the history tool anyway as you go along.

To be honest, I'm tempted just to get it just to see exactly what they all are.

Question: do presets for older versions of LR work on the later releases?

Some do, but you're best off sticking to ones that clearly state they work. Some old lightroom 3 ones that I had from that thread caused LR4 to crash all the time, while others just didn't work.

It's not cheap but Nik Collection is worth a try to see if it warrants a purchase, it does more than you can do with presets. It used to be a lot more expensive (Google bought it and dropped the price), it is very powerful so genuinely think it's worth a shot.

The bundled pre sets are all you need. I have tried most of the 3rd party ones and I find them boring and repetitive. Some are dangerous and damaging. Avoid. Make your own.
