Lightroom or Aperture

As title, I have both trail version at the moment and just cant decide which to go for so love to hear what you guys think? Lightroom or Aperture and reason why.....

personally i dont like either! i find photoshop far superior. But if i was to choose it would be ligtroom as its the closest comparison to PS and when i spoke to some guys at the apple store they recommended both the adobe products over aperture and described it as a slightly advanced iphoto
 
I use 400D (Raw) + LR = :)

I did use Aperture for a bit, but i wasn't to keen so decided to keep LR and i'm loving it for the time being.

lightroom certainly aint trying to compete with photoshop they have very different purposes...

for example if you wanna get rid of an element of your photo, or significantly adjust the core image, then photoshop is the daddy, but if you want to add different lens filters and effects to your images then lightroom is the top dog due to the fact that its all non-destructive, e.g. if you crop the image and apply a warming colour filter, then it keeps the original intact and attaches just the instructions the image of what changes are made! - you could then have another variation with different settings and it'd only use a few k to store some more instructions... photoshop would essentially bake these changes into the file, and sure you could save loads of variations of the .psd file, but that aint nowhere near as slick as lightroom...

all depends on what you want to do... i'm not a photographer and dont use lightroom, but i can certainly see its advantages and appreciate its place in the market ;)

but in answer to the original question... i dont have an opinion on lightroom vs. aperture, but i can tell you that photoshop creative magazine (which is subscribe to) reckons lightroom is superior ;)

Hmm Still very undecided just that i dont think i would use all the feature in CS3 at all and think it about £400 aint it?

I also though about PhotoShop Elements 6 when it release.

I just want something bit more powerful than iPhoto and I been told it handy having Dodge and Burns as it help to make photos better.
 
Lightroom, Photostop and a D200 here. Photoshop is all well and good on its own, but it doesn't exactly help you organise your photos. I find I rarely need Photoshop unless I need to clone something out so Lightroom does me!
 
OK I seem to like Lightroom at this moment seem to do a lot i like to do but wonder if any of you could do me a before and after with lightroom to show me how good it is as i still a lot to learn on how to work it so love to see some examples
 
RAW + Aperture + Photoshop is my method of choice.

IMO Aperture is much more intuitive that Lightroom, and the number of useful plugins available is great, my favourite being Export Version to FTP.

Neither are competition for Photoshop though, both packages have to be used in conjunction with it to get the best out of your photos.

This is my preference too and for much the same reasons, aperture feels more intuitive and complete than lightroom did when I tried it.

You need photoshop as well but I don't use it too much, I'm a fan of getting the photo right when I take it rather than editing it after.
 
Canon 300D with RAW + Lightroom for me. Will probs get Photoshop Elements 6 when it's out. (Also use iPhoto as well, as a 'local' copy of a selection of the best processed images... the master files are all on an external HD, which gets backed up to another external HD.
The one downside I do have with Lightroom is that it doesn't integrate in)to iLife/iWork apps. Aperature does I believe (for obvious reasons).
It's not that much of an issue, but it would be nice for images to just show up in a Media inspector window instead of me wizzing around in Finder. Also, not an issue, when the image I needs is one of the post-processed 'favourites' I've already exported from Lightroom, and into iPhoto.
 
Nikon D50 RAW Lightroom and Photoshop here.

I think the best thing to do is try the demo of both LR and Apeture and see which one you get on with best.

I've moved from PC to Mac and because you cant use Aperture on PC I got used to LR on the PC so now it's what I use on the Mac.

Photoshop is brilliant for major edits to images but LR is better at managing your image Library and doing batch changes.
