Hi,

Just bought myself a Macbook and was looking at getting Lightroom to go with it, however I hate pay monthly subscription software and you don't seem to be able to do a one time purchase.

Are there any good alternatives (Free is good if possible) that people are using instead?

He's just said he doesn't want a lightroom subscription so you suggest a lightroom subscription. Lol

Capture One can be had as a standalone package.

He said Hates MONTHLY subscription.

I suggested a 1 time purchase? May be he don't mind annual subscription lol Unless he means he wants to own the license for perpetuity?

Side note, I used to buy LR like every year or so when they release a new version, that was a 1 time purchase lol

Sorry, to be clear, I don't do any subscription software (Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, anything..).. if I can't buy it and own it outright for myself then It's not for me. I've been bitten by that in the past.

Take a look at Capture One.

What level/stage are you at with your photography?
If you are just looking for a bit of casual image enhancement and have a bit of fun with your edits then I’d recommend Luminar - no subscription required there.
For more serious/professional work Capture One is definitely worth looking at however it’s quite expensive (by my standards anyway) and it’s often on sale so could be worth keeping an eye on.

When you say alternative, do you want image management or raw editing? DXO is a great standalone raw editor, but a bit rubbish when it comes to image management. Capture One is better for image management, but is as good on the editing front.

Darktable is ok and free. Very Lightroomesque.

I tried it for a but but found I really missed the Catologue/DAM functionality of Lightroom.
DigiKam is more aimed for DAM.
And while not as good for processing, DarkTable or Raw Therapee could be used with it.
