Hi am having problems getting dsl(and dsln) or puppy(and puplets) linux on the signature computer to fully boot any ideas what's wrong ?

why do you need a lightweight distro in the first place?

why doesnt it boot what errors are you getting? that will help us a little more

Hi I was trying to make a bootable usb keydrive to salvage files and document's form friend's and family computers when they go bad ie bsod.

The dsl boots half way and then drops to a "very limited shell " because it can't find the cd where as the Puppy just locks up half way thought .

perhaps a bad cd image, or burn?
Did you md5 sum the iso, or run any sort of disk check?

Tried all those things even tried the the pen dive linux above and get a similar error to the dsl linux then freezes.
insmod: can't read 'unionfs.ko': No such file of directory Failed to load unionfs module Loading /initrd/bin/ash

Could this be sum thing to do the the motherboard as the only flavor of linux I got to work is ubuntu 8.04. the chipset is p35/ICH9R jm micron Ide ?

No, its failing to insert the module into the kernel from the location because unionfs.ko does not exist. Sounds to me like the filesystem mounts/directory structure is wrong. Check you have followed the install steps correctly.
