Hi
I am looking to replace an aging, by now slow Asus Zenbook UX305FA I had for 4-5 years now. It has been a cool little machine, super thin and light at its time, and still works great but it has its limitation especially in terms of a rather slow mobile processor (M-5Y10c) as well as it only has an 128GB SSD which is constantly near the limit whenever I have some videos or whatever stuff I might need (I use an older external drive to keep some personal photos and videos).
On the good side, I like the fact that it was sturdy, excellent keyboard, good battery life (although past years its just sitting plugged 24/7), and the brilliant matte screen - I could not get used to using a shiny/glossy screen again I think, even though in the meantime I moved away from sunny Cyprus where there were always some strong stray rays coming in
Long story short, that is the reason I am particularly looking for a matte screen laptop, that is my first want and secondly I will be looking for a 512 SSD prefererably, I think I could live with 256 but same time prices have come down a lot so its reasonable I think within my budget. I am not very set on the ultrabook format, because I don't really travel much with my "home" laptop, so I'm oscilatting between thinking of getting one with a bigger screen vs. sticking to a 13-14" as this one.
I was really keen onto the Acer Swift 3 SF313 with 3:2 format screen since it was right within the budget and having all things in place...except the glossy screen - seen it in a store and although colors are great, much more lively than my current Asus, it really is quite shiny/glossy. Don't get it why they don't make more laptops with a matte screen nowadays since I see only benefits compared to glossy screens for the majority of users.
My budget is 700 - I am open to also getting one of Amazon Warehouse deals for example or some other open-box place, as long as within budget. And when I say lightweight I don't mean aluminum case only, in fact considering my Asus has quite a few dents around the case/screen, probably some plastic or magnesium alloy is better (I was really liking the LG gram I saw in the store but read reviews on its reliability that didn't sound great)
Some other laptops I've looked at, to in the end come to the conclusion that a matte screen is really important for me were Asus Vivobook Metal S435 with OLED 14" screen, LG Gram 16", Samsung Galaxy Book 15" , Asus Zenbook UX534, ASUS VivoBook S 15" ( S513EA) , and I've honestly even considered the Macbook Air with M1 since it can be found open box for around 750-800 - but I quickly convinced myself yet again that I am not an Apple man when it comes to laptops.
I know and hope that there's other models out there I am missing, hence why I came here to ask for help in finding those. Ultimately, if the matte screen will be an impossibility within my budget and with my other "wants", I would at least settle for the least glossier ones - since having been in a shop it seems some are definitely more glossier/reflective than others.
Thanks much for reading this and for your help
