Just sitting here wondering if there are any games out there that have a similar level of depth, variety in ship fitting/construction, number of different ships and combat to EVE but where I don't have to pay a monthly fee and be pestered by other people. But also including some sort of online multiplayer either vs or co-op.
I don't care for mining or trade but I want to be able to replicate having Interceptors to tackle ships then having cruisers and battlecruisers warp in and mess things up or flying round cloaked in a stealth bomber looking to pick people off. All with my friends but no randomers and not having to spend money and time (virtually the same thing) getting to a level where I can fly decent ships and use decent weaponry.

EA should dig into its back catalogue and make Privateers, that would be awesome.

Edit: Or maybe not, they'd give it to Bioware who would put it in the ME Universe and base the core of the game around a dating simulator.

Yawn inducing tosh with a horrid game mechanic IMO

Black Prophecy maybe?

I great steaming heap of crud - massively disappointing.

The unfortunate case is that there just isn't a decent space game out there at the moment that isn't drastically boring. The only thing that seems to hold any real promise IMO is Infinity Quest for Earth.

some forum for people who play on the chinese version of eve i think he was trying to be sarcastic as "its like eve but not eve"

i too am waiting (patiently -.-) for Infinity

http://www.infinity-universe.com

Every now and then a tech video comes out. or some renders etc. makes me go a bit crazy with excitement.

Real scale galaxy. Billions of planets and stars. Ownable planets. procedually generated. ships from the size of a 1 man fighter to a 5km long epin monstrosity, ownable stations and just... insaneness.

oh and seemless loadless planetary entry... just fly on down.

Did i mention real scale... everything....

oh also the engine is multi core, 64bit DX11 physics etc etc. got the lot.

Yeh im confident they will. Perhaps not quite up to the hype, but a damn site better than anything else being offered. Though to be honest if they just gave me some ships and a planet to land on and take off from over and over id probably be ecstatic.

I like the idea of it... but procedually generated content is rarely that interesting, better to be a little bit smaller and more focused.
