I bought a Philips 40PFL8007 in late 2013 for £800 from Richer Sounds. It had been reduced from £1300 I believe.
It has had it's software niggles since I bought it but with each firmware release has come additional issues. The Philips forums are full of disgruntled owners.

Anyway, RS have sent 2 repair companies out who have said they could sort it, with both fitting a new mainboard but alas the issues persist.
RS have now said they will exchange the TV.

I called customer service this evening and the guy I spoke to first said we don't have any Plasmas. I replied that's ok, it's an LED TV. He then began to list basics like 3D, size etc etc.
I expressed my concern with this saying a £300 TV will match the basic specs but won't come near the picture quality. He informed me they would look at some models and speak to some guys in a shop to see what they think.

So... what would you guys say would be a similar spec TV? I'm open to something larger as well.
Cheers.

Update...

I pushed my luck and my budget.

I wanted a larger TV compared to the 40" I have so went to Currys to look at a Samsung UE55H6400 priced at £749 (purely because my nearest RS is 25 miles away). I took my USB HDD loaded with films and asked for the remote so I could adjust the picture settings. As much as I fiddled, I just wasn't overly impressed.

I then set my sights on a Panasonic TX50CX680B priced at £899 and it was much better. Firefox OS also looked good but still it's £899!
Had a look on the RS website and they had a voucher for £100 off. I then asked them if they would increase my allowance to £650 plus throw in next day delivery worth £9.99 and they did :D

Total cost for the new 50"... £149. Superb service from RS plus a new 6 year warranty on the Panasonic. Result.
