Likelihood of another Nvidia price cut?

While reading through the advice to wait a couple of weeks for Ati's new releases before buying a new graphics card. I began to think about how likely it would be that Nvidia would cut prices again, especially considering they have maintained the pricing of the 4xx series since Ati's last round of releases.

So what do you think is the most compelling reason to hold off on purchasing a new card even more aggressive pricing from Nvidia or the performance of Ati's new boards.

Both, i guess:)

I would imagine final pricing will depend upon how good AMD's 69xx cards are?

GTX480's will drop like a stone (£250 ish) when 570 released.

The GPU market is currently abit confused due to the staggered releases from Nvidia/AMD.

Unless you are specifically keen on any particular card (as I was:)), waiting a week or so is the best option.

Could be wrong, but I'd expect some prices to fall due to the release of both cayman and gtx570.

As it stands, there's fantastic value in pairing up a gtx460/6850/6870. The big single cards are pretty expensive atm.

GTX480 sat between £360 and £400 for a long time (7 months) because it was king of the hill. If cayman cannot match, undercut or exceed fermi then 580's could stay close to current levels until mid 2011.

Demand for the 580 is quite strong, so ATI have a good guage for top end price ponting. If caymen beats fermi the 6970 will be prices at ~£400, forcing fermi to drop by a small ammount. It is likely that both cards will perform very similarly and I cannot see either dropping below £360 for some time. If caymen was so good, ATI would not have delayed launch to readjust 6900 clocks (rumour).

I'd wait if i were you. To put things into perspective 3 weeks back i was offering 180 for a used 5870, and that was considered cheap back then and the guy didnt want to do the deal.

Today, you can buy one new for 180, delivered with 2 year warranty. Prices of the 5870/5850/460/470/480 will continue to drop while 570 and 6950/6970 are being relreased. Make the buying decision when all cards have been played :) ( no pun intended :p )
