I've not been in the phone market for awhile (usually just get phones on contract) but a deal for the Redmi Note 10 Pro for £129 this week was too good to miss as a backup for the family/2FA. The phone is likely just going to be at home on the Wifi for YouTube/Spotify (plus we have BT Brodband for BT Wifi hotspots anyway if going out) so no big data bundle needed. The thing is I have no idea what approach to take. I think PAYG is the way to go here but I don't understand how it really works.
Everywhere I look just seems to mention "PAYG SIM Only" that all focus on the data you get. Most are all unlimited on the mins and texts but this is basically just like having a contract right since you are basically forced to renew every month to keep being able to send and receive texts/calls? For example the best deal I saw was along the lines of O2 30GB for £8 pm via uswitch but 30GB is too much anyway. It seems kinda daft to be spending £8 pm on this just to receive 2FA texts etc. Anything I'm missing? Everything I see seems to be about data now and not just focused on minutes/texts.
