Right then, saw it last night. Big Luxe seats, only 80-odd but it was fairly full. Plenty of kids, all well behaved with lots of laughs and no unruly popcorn throwing
The remake is toned down, mainly on Lilo's eccentric behaviour in that she was more 'normalised'. That's my main complaint really, and the running gag with the fat man losing his ice cream only got used once. Lilo's voice though sounded great as it's just like the original Lilo. Stitch in CGI was well animated and of course, Stitch is voiced by Chris Sanders again, the OG Stitch. Cobra Bubbles is still in this but in a different capacity and a lady who checks in on Nani throughout the film is a new social worker. Pretty much all of the songs from the original are used including the Elvis songs, and Nani / Lilo singing Aloha Oe.
Regarding Gantu's absence, Jumba takes the lead on trying to capture Stitch after Jumba and Pleakley's previous joint failures. The film's ending is partly familiar but also borrows a bit of L&S 2 (Stitch has a Glitch)'s ending.
As I expected, I rate 2002 above 2025, but I was nicely entertained by this effort nonetheless. It still has the messaging about Ohana Means Family but thankfully no political messaging.
