Hey guys just a quick one really

Is it worth me holding out a few more .months for zen 2 though I hear it's due June July which is abit away im planning for a new PC as my currently on is nearly 7 years old now
A devil canyon cup which was overclocked for 3 years then started crashing so had to down clock and now I get Random full system lock ups so really think I need a new PC now....

My only concern is how long I need to wait for zen 2 or should I just get a new build now ?

Any options appreciated

thanks for the feedback guys ill go with a my gut and wait it out its been dying for about 6 months but the odd full system lock up i can do with for now while gaming haha

my powersupply is also 7 years so i think a full system will be good investment really

im gonna go with AMD this time round intel price gauge is horrible

Hey,

Well, we are only 3-4 months away from the much anticipated launch, and given that you should use your new machine at least 5 years more down the line, then if you can hold, then hold and take the new platform in July.

yeah gonna wait and buy zen 2 i am gonna replace my case in next few weeks ready for when its released as currently my case is awful and the airflow is crap and power button not working etc

tekkas, had the same with my 4790k. Over the last year or two BSODs or freezing/hard lockups becoming more and more frequent. I presumed it was degredation so just kept adding voltage which seemed to work for a while then it'd happen again.

In the end I delidded it and it appeared that the paste had dried up under the IHS so much that it wasn't contacting the core anymore, all the paste was stuck to the underside on the IHS, none on the die and the die was black. Wish I'd taken a picture now but it all cleaned up like new and has been stable ever since. I think the poor contact by the dried up paste under the IHS was causing sudden momentairy temp spikes and instability.

I'm waiting for Zen2 as well and if I was you in the mean time I'd definitely grab a delid tool and put some fresh paste under the IHS, reseating the RAM wouldn't hurt either if it's not been taken out for a while.

my temps seem ok but cant overclock anymore it just crashes after 20 mins or so

has yours improved since deliding ive never done it befoire

well i swapped my case out this weekend only to find a pin was bent on the motherboard after removing the cpu, once i put the cpu back in etc its now takin 2-3 restarts and disabling renabling xMP, i bought a replacement motherboard but now i think iwill just buy a ryzen now instead

are all the boards going to be able to upgrade to the zen 2?
