How can i limit a 5800x clocks would i just set an all clock OC?

MY CPU just boost all the time lol.. i know right im complaining about too much performance.
MY CPU holds 4.85 ever time i do anything so i get temp spikes and the cooler fans ramp.
i've fitted a bigger cooler ands now it just hold boost for longer and get hot and the fans ramp

I have ECO mode on, and a curv optimiser @ -17 all cores,

When i got the cpu to replace my 5600 i just hoped it would hold 4.6Ghz in games like people told me but it hold's 4.85 to 4.75Ghz in games
now the temps are fine at 65c but the fans ramp to hold that temp so if i lower the fans speed it will obviously get hotter.
if there was a way to set the max boost to say 4.6Ghz that would lower temps and fan speed.

My new case as dropped GPU temps massively and ive added liquid metal so the GPU fans sit at 42% in games so i can barely hear them
all my system fanes are now silent wings 3 120mm/140mm so again at full speed i can't hear them...

But my CPU is just like oooo i'm cold, MORE POWER.. lol

ECO mode will not affect the single core boost, and a curve optimiser @ -17 all cores will let the CPU boost longer. Sounds like you just need a fan curve setting or a quieter cooler/fan.

Did I read that right. You’re complaining that the awesome 5800x sold to you is too good? :). I said it was a good sample.
Yes. Hahah

Well yes I have just plugged the new cooler in and set auto in bios

not really messed around with mine much
but you should be able to set a limit on
either all cores or individual cores in ryzen master
then theres also the option of lowering ppt, tdc, edc

just quickly tried
set all cores to 3400mhz then tried 4ghz
then tried individual cores which also worked
running cinebench they all stayed at those speeds
didnt exceed the speed set
though theyre not downclocking once out of cinebench
but must be a way to do that too
though sitting on the desktop at 33c so not as easy to compare
what difference it makes when you have a custom loop
compared to an air cooler

think different motherboards may use different values
but google suggests stock to be
142w/90A/140A on 5800x
mines a 5950x it shows stock as
142w ppt-95A tdc--140A edc
turning on pbo with those values immediately crashed the pc
in cinebench
unfortunately playing around with all this will be time consuming

Im thinking i dont have my cooler mounted right, ive gone from an ITX case and low profile cooler to a Matx case with better flow and a AIO and now im getting game temps of 75c thats about 12c more.
im going to remount my cooler

Edit:
LMAO sorted it, i had my fans set in push / push haha, so now i have push pull.
I have just put it in a new case today and it turns out i am that stupid

lol yeah if you had mentioned that at the beginning
would have been kind of obvious that
it was a cooler issue
still no ones perfect
and no doubt we all have done something we shouldnt have
over the years
as always main things youre sorted now though

Lol no this one is fine now I flipped the fans back into the 60’s gaming away with silent fan profile
which cooler you using with the cpu?

when i had the 5800x and even with the 5900x it will hit throttle temps on 6core or less loads since all the package power gets dumped into small surface area, easily seen in prime95 avx.

I’m using my son’s 240mm freezer 2.
The problem I had is I set up push pull but cocked up and set push push lol.

So after an hour gaming the rad was over run

It looks like you've sorted this now but if you do decided you want to limit your PBO boost you could try this. On my x570 Tomahawk you can set PBO to boost upto an additional 300mhz but you can also set negative values. I've not used the negative values but I assume that will reduce the max boost by whichever value you choose to set.

That's interesting
On my previous 3900x
I just turned on pbo and let it do its thing
Didn't adjust anything and it worked fine

But yesterday on my new 5950x
Turned on pbo which just caused immediate crashing
Pretty sure I saw it boosting all cores to 4650mhz as it crashed
Which would be a very aggressive overclock

Any idea what the setting is called?
Somewhere around 4400mhz all core would do me
And 5ghz on single core as my board has asus dynamic overclocking switching
So you can overclock for both all core and single

Not overclocked in years but assumed just turning on pbo
Would just give a moderate overclock
Not aim for huge one
Even the 2 oc presets in bios caused immediate crashes
Didn't even try to boot into windows
Guess they also turned on pbo
But it's trying to add 650mhz to all cores :(

I can in ryzen master just set all core speed without pbo
But then it doesn't downclock under light loads
And doesn't boost single core load either

Any idea what the setting is called?

in bios....
AMD Overclocking > PBO Setting > Max CPU boosh clock override (set enable plus or minus) > adjust in 50mhz steps

So if you set Enable Negative / 200, it should be 200mhz below the MAX pbo will try to boost. it dose and doesn't work lol
my cpu boosts to 4.85Ghz if i set negative 200 when it not under load i still see spikes to 4.85 but then you load up the chip with games or cinebench the max clock is 4.65
