Ok im now looking for a new router/modem that will limit bandwidth by device, ip or mac address. Is this possible for new routers to do? i know there is QoS which i already have but does not work as it should. Ive read somewhere that the latest firmware update for the asus routers have this (limit bandwidth by device option)

just wanted your expert advice on this guys :-)

It's been a while since I dipped into Asus parental functionality but I know it used to be able to lock down MAC address by time. Probably needs someone with that model to confirm it'll allow X amount of bandwidth per device.

i think Expensive? Yes. But well worth the money. Incredibly capable hardware, with a choice of firmware to suit your needs.

How do the ASUS routers prioritise traffic?

can you limit specific devices to a set amount of bandwidth or can you set all devices to have access to max bandwidth but PC1 takes priority over PC2 and your iPhone?

I had a old dlink that had decent QOS but it could only be done on port numbers not per device.

I read somewhere recently that the new firmware allows for each device to have a specified bandwidth limit.

i do have the link to the article about the new firmware but not sure if i can post outside links on here.
